So... the war protest was a success. The Armed Forces Career Center at Hollywood Blvd. and N. La Brea was closed today due to the demonstration.

I was happy to be a part of it, but I don't agree 100% with the things they were saying. For example, I'm *not* a conscientious objector. I do believe that we, as a species, have not yet evolved above the need for armed conflict, but this demonstration was set up by a church in the area. I did not have prior knowledge of that.

I thought only a handful of people would be there and that I would have a chance to talk to would-be recruits before they finalized their paperwork, but there was about 60 people present and media coverage too. Plus, like I said, the center was closed so there were no recruits.

There were several signs and t-shirts, each advertising a website for a different peace organization. I thought that was a litle weird. Like each organization, rather than coming together, was trying to get their message across.

The demonstration was coordinated with the police so it was totally peaceful. It consisted of a march from the church that sponsored the event to the recruitment center. There were fake coffins draped in American flags and people wearing signs around their necks depicting statistics: 181 US dead under the age of 19 and things of that nature. The coffins were set up in front of the center and the names of all the dead were read off. Afterwords, there was a press conference.

It was totally peaceful but another organization (I forget the name off the top of my head) started handing out t-shirts to the people who were going to participate in the civill disobedience. If you're going to have a peaceful demonstration, have a peaceful demonstration. If you want civil disobedience, have civil disobedience. It just seemed to me like they ruined what another organization had accomplished.

And then there were the crazies. Those saying that Pearl Harbor was staged in order to get the US involved in WWII, and shit like that. I tuned them out. Someone talked to me about the evils of Israel, people were asking me who I was with like I'm in a gang or something. I showed up to the event a la carte, which is how I'm best served.

To top it off, there were no good-looking hairy chicks present. *sigh*

Heh. It's more my chest that says I can't eat pickle. Losing most of the ability to breathe isn't too nice. It's like my immune system is weakening. Just over a year ago I wasn't allergic to anything - to my knowledge.

That's pretty funny that you read bass as in the fish bass, must have made you think I was going nuts. tongue
