Great story. Great writing. Congrats to you on the journalistic coup. Loosely reminded me of something an older British friend told me about picking up John Lee Hooker who'd just arrived into the UK. The way he marveled at people being interested in him and facilities not being segregated and all. My friend (still a boy) was amazed in turn to hear that those sorts of conditions were imposed at all in a first world country, even more so upon a well known artist. Scary to think how recent that was in the whole scheme of things, eh? Toulouse is a nice area. In my university days I spent a few weeks hanging out in nearby Gascony drinking Armagnac, eating cheeses, picking mushrooms, closing my eyes at bullfights, and getting along with my boyfriend's dad way better than my stuffy boyfriend.
