Fucking Vista. I really wish more games were made for Mac, I'd ditch this last PC altogether. But, alas, I still like my PC games. Anyhow, so, I have two hard drives in my PC, one is the "boot" drive with the OS on it and the other is for everything else. Or, that is how I, foolishly, thought it was. But, I'm getting ahead of myself.
A few days ago my PC started locking up on me after about a minute of use. Then would eventually go to BSOD if I was patient enough to wait for it. So, tonight I started pulling hardware and connections and reseating everything, figuring something was making Windoze unhappy. As due course for this happy process, I disconnected the non-essential "data" drive. With my now-minimal-hardware configuration, I reboot.... to an error message saying it couldn't find some Windows loader...? Buh? Long story... errr... long but not as long as it could be, it turns out some of the files required to boot, part of the boot manager, were installed to the fraqqin other drive!!! So Stupid. So, the whole purpose of having a sep. OS drive is now for not, BOTH drives are requisite to boot. Did I select this fun option during install? NO. FRAK YOU WINDOWS VISTA!!!
Disclaimer: I think this might be a side effect of having accidentally hooked up the data drive on the first SATA channel. This is totally a guess, though. WTF do I know of SATA channels? I'm too old for this shit.
The upside: it's now a little after 2am, and I've written this diatribe from my PC. Of course, it's still in "bare bones" mode AND, despite many attempts with bcdedit, it STILL requires the second drive to boot. But, it works. No more lockups. So, tomorrow I get to work through reinstalling hardware bit by bit until I find the problem child. Oh yeah, good times.
I better stop, I can tell I'm turning you on.
