Excuse my brief diatribe:
While it pleases me to see the "Protect Homophobia" campaign wasting their money on me, I must say I found the two page full color brochure on why I should vote yes on prop 8 quite disturbing when I pulled it out of today's mail. The gist: schools that teach about marriage might talk about gay marriage, so vote yes on 8. What I find most disturbing is the fact that it is an incomplete argument. I had a long explanation in Toulmin terms, but I'll cut to the chase -- the whole crux of their argument is based on the assumption that children learning that homosexuals have the right to marry is bad. In other words, the whole crux of their argument is based on homophobia. Otherwise, who gives a fuck if your kid learns that men can marry men?? What, are they gonna "catch gay" cause they fucking hear about it in school?! What?! Seriously, what?! Of course, the Christians that actually believe homosexuality is evil are really the ones behind this campaign, but they know they cannot win by coming straight out and saying "gay is evil" so they've decided to go this "protect children" route and leave that "gay is bad" part out. They go on TV and say, "oh no, we like the gays, we have gay friends, we want them to have equal rights though civil union, we just want to protect the children" which is such a crock of shit!! If that was the case, then they would be fine with children learning about gay marriage. And I find it VERY disturbing that they are getting away with leaving this assumption to the viewer and people are SUPPORTING IT while feeling okay about themselves not being bigots because nobody comes out and fucking calls it for what it fucking is. It is DISCRIMINATION based on sexual orientation, nothing less. And they are fucking bigoted homophobes. So much for California being "progressive"
BTW, I find the people making attacks against Obama by calling him a Muslim equally disturbing for very similar reasons. Although he isn't Muslim, so what if he is?? Hmm?? Ignorant, bigoted shit heads.
Sorry, I'm just very frustrated with humanity lately. Time for a refill on my bourbon.

I heard about the Prop 8 thing a few days ago... how stupid. I'd love to see some of the literature, but it doesn't seem to be the focus of things here in NYC in the media. The measure of a progressive nation is only as astute as the link that leaves them chained to the past, I find.
Frustration with humanity is paramount at the moment, I'm hoping that while I can't vote on Tuesday, that Tuesday brings about the metal pick that breaks that final link.
Enjoy your weekend
