On Friday Neil and I went to a local water treatment plant to pick up some Northern Shovelers (ducks). The water treatment plant is right next to a river and the ducks can't tell the differance between thier river and the river of sewage water. The ducks have been dipping into the water at the at the plant which has been destroying thier water proofing. Local scientists have yet to determine exactly why but, it doesnt suprise me with all of the drugs and chemicals people flush down thier toilet or sink.
We picked up six young ducks and then transported them to Greenwood Wildlife Sanctuary in Lyons, CO. These transports will be done by the staff and volunteers of the Greenwood Wildlife Sanctuary for the next few weeks.
If you or someone you know would like to get involved in urban wildlife rehabilitation in Colorado, log on to www.greenwoodwildlife.org to find more info on volunteering.
