So here's he good part of that. I'll be doing all of the cooking and baking myself! I've never done the cooking and baking for myself and I figured, "Fuck it, why not?" I've done if for family and other loved ones before and it's always been appreciated so instead of ordering out, this is on me this year. It'll distract from how much I loathe my birthday (don't ask why, it doesn't matter really).
The appetizers are kind of all over the place but they'll be good as I'm dealing with Iberian Peninsula Spanish Chorizo (Acorn fed pork), Caviar from Russia (the real deal Sturgeon stuff, I love it and it's was crazy expensive) as well as (people are going to hate on me for this one) Foie Gras pate/mousse that I've made myself and I know, I know it's a frowned upon dish due to the way the liver itself gets to Foie Gras status but, I NEVER have it for that reason so this is the one time since I was in Europe back in the late 90s so please understand that! It's just fucking delicious and I hate how it's "made" too but yeah. It's been forever.
As for dinner and dessert it's going to be fairly easy to make (except for the cake but even that, will be easy-ish for me) and it'll be German food this year! It's going to be Weiner Schnitzel (pork and chicken, not veal because too many people at the party cannot or do not eat beef of any kind) and I'll be making Hunter's aka Jager sauce to go with it and for those that don't want the Jager sauce, I'm optioning to go with a good German bread and brown mustards to have people make Schnitzel sandwiches if they like. Those are the easiest options for me as I'll be doing so much tonight (dessert) and then cooking everything myself and from scratch tomorrow. I'll be making basic but delicious sides of potato pancakes and spaetzle (I haven't decided on what I want to do with the spaetzle aside from the butter so far so @zweitesich if you have a recommendation aside from the traditional or, if you prefer the traditional give me your opinion please?!). I believe that's all for the dinner portion of the evening unless I spaced on another side dish but... Dessert... Heh...
It's going to be my favorite Gateau/Torte to make and that's the classic Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte and it is the most amazing Gateau/Torte you could possibly ever have with chocolate cakes sprinkled with Kirsch (cherry) brandy, whole cherries soaked in the same brandy and layered in between the three cakes (Yes, I do three. Some say two, I say, that's not a Gateau lol) with heavy cream whipped and then put in with them and covering the entire Gateau/Torte as well with more cherries on top of the outer edge of the cake atop peaks of more of the whipped heavy cream and chocolate shavings (this part is my nemesis but I'm going to attempt the curls as best I can this time lol) all around and atop the cake as well! It should all be pretty amazing and coffee served with aperitifs along with the cake! Sooooo, that's all that. Here's some music that I do enjoy and some that I abuse my emotional stability with on this day. Some classics, some new additions. Enjoy below as per susual!
The newest edition is the Aldous Harding track "The Barrel" off her phenomenal album Designer (2019) and I have posted this track before but, enjoy! This is going to be track one of either 3 or 4. If I posted more, I'd be here all fuckin' weekend lol.
Next, a sad one. A very sad one. From the long gone but very, very missed Elliott Smith off his self titled album Elliott Smith I give you, "Needle In The Hay." Now yeah, it's a downer but, so am I on my birthday usually so here it is. Enjoy, in that sad sort of way.
This is going way back and this song has newer sad and happy effects on me now that people in my life that I loved are gone and others have become a part of my life as well. So here's Jane's Addiction with "Then She Did" off their 1990 album Ritual De Lo Habitual and if you know anything about this song, it brings the metaphorical house down! I love it in all it's sadness and glory so here it is.
Two more then I'm out! Next up is another new addition and that'd be from the incomparable genius that is Hozier. This man has fuckin' blindsided me with his amazing music. Truly. So, where going with his self titled 2014 album Hozier and the track "Cherry Wine." It's one of the most amazing and devastating (to me) tracks on the album but "Like Real People Do" is being reserved for someone and some other time. Enjoy and then, one more everyone! I have a ton o' shit to get done!
Last but not least, ending on a positive note, I give you the restored (with added footage from the Chicago shows back in '03) video for the one, the only, most amazing band, Ween and their song "Roses Are Free" off their 1994 album Chocolate and Cheese. I hope you enjoy this ending a it's a fantastic fucking song with a fantastic message overall and even broken down into little digestible parts lyrically to ponder. I LOVE WEEN and I know some of you do too! If this is your first foray into Ween, I encourage you to delve further. After this video, stick around for the "shout outs" and then, I'm out! See you after the video!
