So the nomination from my good friend @lorry was for "Your favorite song" For me, this is hard to pin down really but thank you @lorry for the nomination, because I love so many damn styles of music and so many songs to me are just, fucking fantastic (@lorry you are fantastic too sweetie!). So I'll post a few here instead and sorry for modifying this topic to fit my selfish needs ;) Anyway, here we go!
First up, from one of my fave hometown bands, it's the Smashing Pumpkins and their album Adore. This, is a killer album and Jimmy Chamberlain isn't even on it (and that is truly saying something!) which made it all the more impressive when it came out. Most die hard fans, including myself, where honestly unsure if they could still sound amazing without Jimmy on drums and happily, we were wrong and it was fucking magical! So the track that keeps me so very high is "Pug" in all its infinite glory. A truly masterful track and a testament to the dark and light sides of love and loving. Enjoy, a few more to follow and I swear that'll be it!
Secomd, a true classic and my fave from this band. From the most "brutal" (wink wink) album in their discography, it's The Misfits and their album Legacy Of Brutality. The track? "Hybrid Moments" It's a tour de force of fuckin' awesomeness. I've always felt a special connection to this song. It gives me the warm fuzzies inside and that's kinda messed up but fuck it. Who cares right? Enjoy this one too! A few more below this!
Next up! From a classic band, I give you a classic track! Off their White album or (The Beatles for some I guess) it's you guessed it, The Beatles. The track? "Dear Prudence" and there's a great story as to how and why this track was originally created and I suggest you go find it on the internet because it's too much to explain here if you aren't familiar with the story. It is super sweet and I promise, if you don't know the story, you will most likely love it :) This song, kind of kills me. But, in a devastatingly beautiful way if I'm being completely honest. It's a plea wrapped up in gorgeousness and simplistic love and care for another. What could be better when you want to break down and just enjoy and cry tears of absolute joy at the beauty of this track. Enjoy!!
Next up, from the hip hop side of the spectrum I give you one of the most bangin' tracks this band offers up and it is a definite favorite of many of their fans (including me obviously) and not a "deep cut" though this track is no less a gem than a deep cut I could have picked! So from the ever fucking amazing Run The Jewels, I give you off the second album RTJ2, "Blockbuster Night Part 1." It is so fucking great. Everyone knows this. So I'm done explaining! Enjoy and one more fave after this slammin' track!
Okay, so this is another bad ass track from another killer band. Aptly named for the genre they are/were in as well. I say were because the main member of the band passed away sadly but he was a true gawd in their genre. That band's genre being old school death metal and, it doesn't get any more death metal than the band Death! Chuck Schuldiner was an amazing guitarist, lyricist and all around fuckin' awesome dude that sadly contracted cancer and passed away after fighting to survive for a good, long while. He is sorely missed and how many bands in the death metal scene just HAVE to be envious of Chuck and Death? I mean, you go up to someone and say "Hey, you're in a death metal band too? My band's name is (*insert ANY death metal band name here) what's the name of yours?" And the reply is simply "Death" Haha, fucking amazing. Also, Death WAS the epitome of death metal and its formative years as a genre. Yes, there are and were other great death metal bands. But none could hold a candle to Death (in my opinion at least)! So from their groundbreaking 90's album Human, I give you "Flattening Of Emotions." A true death metal classic on any death metal aficionado's list by any and ALL metric of a great death metal track to be sure! Enjoy!
Bonus round!! I know I said only one more before I put in the killer track from Death but I promise this is the last one (For now. Hell, I might just do another faves list for fun!). From my end of the musical spectrum in the sense that I produce/write/compose this type of music myself (mostly this genre, I should specify, even though we do other heavy styles of electronic based/influenced music too), we are going to delve into the world of electronic music or more aptly semi-electronic music seeing as a lot of bands in this genre are a mixture of more "traditional" instruments and a bit or a lot o' electronic instruments and software. That genre, is the almighty genre of Industrial music. This is the toughest choice for me honestly out of the tracks and bands I have showcased in this super fucking long post but never the less, it has to be decided no matter how tough it is to choose just one in this genre especially! But the band taking home the prize from me in this post is none other than the fantastic and always killer band, another Chicago (at least in their beginning and for a long time) fave, Ministry. Off the album, The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste from 1989, the killer track "So What" in all its glory and deviance! A truly impressive track that has continued to stand the test of time and can easily be argued into the top 10 best Industrial songs of all time if not the top 5 best Industrial tracks of all time! I believe the case could be made that this track is a "deep cut" but this whole album is beloved by most of the Industrial community so if you love Industrial, tell me if you feel this is truly a "deep cut" or not. Enjoy the bonus track!
After this track, I will list my nominees to do either the original version of this post (one track, your all time favorite one.) or you can do this variation if you like! I'd love to see it from some of you!! Enjoy and nominees incoming!!
