My high school reunion went suprisingly well. It was a little uncomfortable at first. It took me a few seconds to recognize some of my former classmates. Some had blossomed while others had withered a bit. Married, divorced, re-married...wow. Most of them were married and with a child. There were even a few with three kids. Not even thirty..with three kids. I couldn't imagine it. But they all seemed happy. I listened to them swap stories about pregnancies, jobs, kids, relationships, etc. I felt kind of wierd because I didn't have any stories like that to match. I'm just a short order cook, no real deep meaningful relationships, no kids... They are now mortgage brokers, MoDot, housemoms, admin, managment, business owners...I was just happy to say that I had just graduated and planned to move to LA.
One guy was afraid to say hi to another guy because he had picked on him in high school. That made me think about how stupid high school was. We all felt kind of bad for a girl there that none of us recognized. The person who organized the reunion was the only person who could recognize her. She left early and seemed a little upset. Our class had only 68 people in it. About 25 showed up tonight. I thought it was interesting to see the little cliques get back together. I got a kick out of that.
It was also nice seeing the smiles and gestures of these people. Seeing them do the little things like that was so cool. Memories came flooding back. The eyes, voices, the little nervous ticks...were all still there. Still the same after a decade. Even after all the life stuff they've been through. Wow...If I was asked to describe these people, I wouldn't be able to recall any of that stuff. But seeing it after a decade and recognizing it as one of the unique qualities that make up that person was very cool.
X-files is on.
good night
