Shit, it's March already?
I went to AWP in Seattle. I didn't have a pass but managed to have a poor person's most excellent adventure. Portland bizarro writers carpooled up, met at the Hilton for a post-conference party, drank too much. I met and had insanely terrific conversation with the badass JS Breukelaar, crashed on my publisher's floor, woke up the next morning to my dude pretending to rip off my arm while wearing the most adorable cat beanie (courtesy of my grandmother), wandered around the book vendor's room and made some worthwhile connections, helped sell books at the Eraserhead Press table. Left Bank Books blew my mind. I got to pour home-brewed beer to patrons attending a reading that the shop was hosting. I met more people. Blushed when authors I admire weaved through crowds to greet me by name. Watched some fucking phenomenal readings (Scott McClanahan -- holy shit). The weekend helped me realize that I'm right where I need to be. Some good people around me, for real. Also, kudos to the Hilton for having free tampons in their ladies lounge.
(being shitheads in the nook where we served people beer)
Drove and dove back into a full-time work schedule. Any semblance of "normal" sleep has been told to fuck right off. I prepared for my own reading in Portland. I delivered my own reading to a packed venue (thank you to everyone who attended). I worked, edited some stories, submitted a story to a periodical I connected with at AWP, assured my cats that I don't hate them, told my boyfriend that he's beautiful and thanked him for all the meals he's been cooking.
