Today is a special day for me. Today is the anniversary of my reinvention.
Two years ago, I legally stopped being Tiffany _________, and became Tiffany ____________. No, I did not get married. I did, however, drop a name I had absolutely no connection to, and adopted a family name that always felt like my real name.
I was reborn. I felt as though I was able to dismiss a lot of baggage from my past, and take steps toward to creating a future I wanted for myself. I've come a long way in those two years, but I still have my battles.
Lessons that have I've learned that have made my life easier:
1) Accept people as they are, and always hope for the happiness of everyone. Happy people, generally, don't go out of their way to treat others like shit.
2) Life is too short to hold on to grudges. Drop the anger, and implement #1.
3) Give no fucks. So, hey, you're at a bar and they're playing your favorite David Bowie song and no one is dancing? Don't be shy -- get up and dance. Who cares what other people think? It's your life. Enjoy it.
4) Do what you want. Over the summer, I entertained the idea of living the life of a writer. Since, I've written a couple of manuscripts for books and short stories, made friends with a lot of writers and publishers, have been working with an awesome editor from a publishing company I have tremendous amounts of respect for, have had a short story published, and will hopefully have my first book published later this year. If you have an idea of what you want for your future, what are the steps you would need to take? Put those wheels in motion and make it happen.
5) Keep learning. Knowledge is incredibly gratifying, and it's important to exercise your brain. Don't give up because you haven't immediately become some sort of master/pro, be proud of what you have accomplished so far and keep learning.
6) Treat yourself to something everyday. Yes, this was borrowed from Twin Peaks. The treats don't have to be physical purchases. A treat can be break to enjoy the sunshine outside, five extra minutes of something you enjoy, etc. As long as you recognize that as a treat you are giving yourself, it's easy to sit back and enjoy the experience. They all add up after a while, and, at least for me, I notice that I feel much happier overall.
Today, I am treating myself to have a full day of doing things I enjoy. Right now, I am sitting here with the remaining sips of a delicious cup of coffee, have a Lush face mask on, and am enjoying the sunshine that is coming in through the windows. Later, I plan to work on my yard and continue to enjoy the sunshine. I will then top the evening with a Twin Peaks marathon while consuming copious amounts of pie and coffee.
What will you do for yourself today?
I hope that you are all well and happy.
Love.
Silencia
