Portland has been my home for the past three-ish years. Prior to that, I was a Los Angeles girl. Although I REALLY disliked LA when I lived there, I've found that, over time, I really grew to miss that hell-hole. With conflict continually building, I managed to pack up a few things and conduct "research." Here are my findings:
Los Angeles
In Los Angeles, you pretty much need a car (-25 points). To get from point A to point B, you usually have to hop on some freeway, and sit in traffic for at least an hour (-200). Plus, it's all kind of close to Orange County (-75,000).
BUT, there is way better Mexican food (+1,000,000), more ghetto fabulous cars driving down the street (+3), cute animals who want to be your friend (+7. Unless they wake me up at 3 am to play fetch - then it's +8), and, I guess, living in LA makes you live longer.
In the midst of my missing LA, I did try to "reason" that Portland has all that I miss - just ten times better. But,

Portland
I don't need a car. I can pretty much walk everywhere (and my family wonders why I'm "so skinny"). If I drive for an hour and half, and I can end up at the coast, the mountains, the desert, or a huge fucking forest. There's no sales tax. The cost of living is a lot cheaper. And, this is a huge one, I have a great group of friends who have continually been awesome through good AND bad times.
Portland has been good to me. LA has some wonderful things about it, but I can never really call that place home again. I'm glad I got to visit, but I'm more glad to be back in Portland. <3
