Okay, back from the con. Been back for a couple days, but alas, work decided that 24 hours was enough to fix a major plot hole that I've been trying to avoid.
Proving them wrong on this is, as always, a mixed blessing.
Anyway, nothing I wanted was out at Origins. This isn't a bad thing - too many people rush to get shit out, and it shows. On the other hand, it means Gencon (early August) is going to be a bear.
Further complicating things is that my long-delayed project still isn't out, but all signs point to the near future, September at the latest. Now to see if they'll pay me my full wages, but honestly, it'd just be nice to see the thing come out after all of this. Oh, and my name's no longer on the cover, but as frustrating as it is, it's not too much of a surprise. It's a big project, and I've had to so thoroughly edit some other people's books in it that I ended up doing more of it than they did. I'm still getting prominent bylines, but politics - yech - dictate the cover's off-limits for everyone. A little less flashy, but I'll live.
The other thing is that I swung by the booth for the guys I'm trying to swing a job with. Chatted it up pretty well, but annoyed them slightly by hogging their trivia contest - not my fault those were easy questions. The guy I wanted to chat with wasn't there, and someone took down my name, e-mail, and qualifications to pass along - whether he does or not, I don't know, but it wouldn't have happened if I hadn't tried.
Ran into old friends, too. Not just old acquaintances from previous cons, either. One was a friend I haven't seen in the better part of 10 years, and I think we were both quietly glad to see a friendly face by that point. Got to remember to stop by him again at Gencon.
Anyway, that's it for this little moment in time. Stay tuned next week when I rant about something else of utterly no consequence. Or don't. See if I care, you ingrates!
