Can I gush for you guys?
The Devil's Alphabet by Daryl Gregory is great. It's ostensibly a body horror/science fiction novel, but with strong elements of Southern Gothic and mystery thriller tossed in. Plus, it has a plot that just doesn't stop, and wonderfully flawed - but believable characters.
I'm not done with the book yet, so I guess it could go pear shaped from here. But it's pretty fantastic, weird stuff.
Also: Los Lobos is great. They define "workhorse band" to me (maybe them and Tom Petty). They don't do fancy, at least not *obviously* fancy. But what they do - they do so well and so consistently.
