Stuff that I'm ingesting right now:
1. I just finished Drood by Dan Simmons. Awesome. I don't know if it was intentional, but Simmons plays with the "unreliable narrator" concept by making you an unreliable reader. Or something. Anyway, the book is filled with odd, potentially supernatural things - which is all possibly "real" since you go in knowing that Simmons writes a lot of science fiction and horror. At the same time, the narrator is a laudanum addict. It's huge, sprawling and fun.
2. Now I'm reading Palimpsest by Catherynne Valente. I can't get into it. It's much more literary fantasy than straight up fantasy, with some erotic elements mixed in. I feel like it's trying too hard, or maybe it's just the wrong thing after Drood. I dunno. I'm gonna give it another day or two and I might walk away.
3. I'm really digging Electric Owls. They remind me a MGMT a bit.
4. Last night, I rented Jennifer's Body. It wasn't great, but really solid. Nominally, it's about women's friendships - but there's a weird post-9/11 thing going on it too. Also: I adore Amanda Seyfried.
5. I'm thinking of signing up for Netflix again. Maybe the one DVD at a plan time.

Drood sounds like a good read. I'm thinking of dropping my netflix subscription down to two at a time - especially with all of the streaming options there are now.
