Last weekend, we loaded up the car with all the stuff we were giving away to Goodwill. The amount of shit we hauled out of our closets was *amazing.* There were, literally, items in there we had not seem (nor hardly thought of) in the six years we'd lived here. This is a project we should have engaged in after we moved here. Fuck it: some of this stuff should never have come from our apartment downstate up to Chicago in the first place.
We did not get rid of ALL of it. Some of it was good stuff, like a globe I got as a gift years ago, that we really just had no PLACE for. So, in fairness to us, some of the things that were put away were things that were, roughly, tagged as "We'll probably move out of this small apartment into a larger one at some point, and then get a chance to use this stuff." But a lot of it was, very obviously, just shit we were hauling around. If we had done this half a decade ago, our life would have been neater and easier. But so it goes.
A lesson for the future? We'll see: now I'll have a garage and a basement to fill up.

Oh hell yes. I don't really know anyone that enjoys the process. The idea of moving and the actually being moved in part doesn't suck, but the doing almost always does.

I just did this too, except Volunteers of America will come out to you and pick it up, thank god. I'm not even much of a pack rat, and I was amazed at how much crap I got rid of.
