The army has put my life on hold.
The day I enlisted they informed me that I am going to a base in the north of Israel to learn Hebrew. For the entire next 2 weeks I had completely no clue what was going on and had to rely on other English speakers and my well developed powers of perception to know what to do. After that I learned that I was halfway through basic training and that was why I was being yelled at in Hebrew so much and having to do so many pushups in the freezing rain in the winter in the north of Israel at the top of the Mountains. Then that things got worse. Most of the people in my platoon are Russians with criminal records and about this time they decided that they didn't like me nor any of the other 8 Americans in my platoon. This is bad because they outnumber us about 6 to 1. Suffice it to say the next month was a struggle to survive and that several times th Russians were caught with knives on them corresponding to times when they were threatening me and my friends lives. After that they started drawing swastikas everywhere and this idiotic miscalculation on their behalf resulted in a huge strategic advantage politically for the Americans among the commanders which we have since thoroughly exploited. The result of which is that these Russian pieces of shit are all scarred shitless of me and my ilk now and do my cleaning for me. Brain always conquers brawn.
This course is almost over and I can't say that I speak Hebrew but I'm finally understanding some of it - which if nothing else is a start. In a week I will graduate this course, leave this hellhole of a base and find out what the army is really going to do with me...wish me luck!!!!
