Fast Like a Fox
On Blogger here.
So I was looking through all the things I've done over the past few months to write about. My exciting time was actually pretty boring. Mostly the same stuff over and over, and while I enjoyed the things I did it may be best to just fast forward to present day.
So with that said let's talk about the most recent happenings. So what have I been up to these past several weeks? What has the great Captain Redbeard been putting his beardy powers to use on?
Cadence. I've been working on my cadence, and shifting to a forefoot strike from a midfoot. My cadence was all over the place, and caused me to lose form halfway through a run. So, I installed a metronome app and started to plow away. At first I was thinking about starting at 150spm, and working my way up, but when I started to jog I realized that since my strides are so short with my mini-legs I just couldn't step that slow. Each interval I increased the cadence until I settled on a healthy 170spm, which comes to about an 11:00 min/mi pace.
With my focus on my cadence, and maintaining a forefoot strike so intense I've also noticed that my form stays solid through the entire run. It has to in order for me to maintain both of those. Once my form starts to falter there is a noticeable decrease in my cadence, and it just kind of all falls apart from there. It's tough for sure, but my runs feel so much better, and with the change to forefoot striking I feel...bouncier.
Oh, I also went camping which was completely awesome. It was hot, and rained a lot, but I still had a blast. Thankfully no one's tents got wet inside in spite of the the monsoon on the first night. I highly recommend tent camping if you've never done it. Get a group of friends, buy some gear, and go act like idiots (responsible idiots) in the woods.
You'll notice at the bottom that I added a few more stats to track. I decided I wanted to keep some measurements. Weight is only sort of important to me, but the measurements are super important.
Oh yeah, before I end this I wanted to let you all know that I signed up for the Biggest Loser challenge at my office. A little extra motivation to keep me going.
