I get amazed how fast people jump to conclusions sometimes. Twice today I was reminded of this. I am at the office working away and this guy emails one of my bosses to tell him that I screwed up his drawings because one of the designs that I was given shows what he wants and the three other designs I was given show something different.
Now my drawing totally matched the drawing the client referred my boss to. Then told my boss that I was incompetent because I could not follow the design as it was shown there. My boss believing that the customer is always right didn't even bother to look at the issues at hand and comes to me in a huff ready to argue with me about my mistake. He tells me I have to fix the drawing on my own time because he didn't want to pay for the extra work and that next time I would be billed for the errors.
So I printed out everything, all four designs all the emails back and forth about what was wrong and then printed out my drawings and stapled it to the drawing that it supposedly didn't match. Took them over to the boss and showed him on the light table that my drawing did exactly match the design the client said it didn't match. Also I pointed out the the designs that the clients designer drew were all different even though he was trying to pass them as the same design. Also I showed him that the design the client was actually claiming to want wasn't even a design in any of the associated files I was given. Then stated that my drawing was more accurate than the design that the client brought to us because my drawings dimensions worked and his designers dimensions made no sense what so ever not to mention they were often not even existent where they were vitally important.
After my boss settled down a bit I then told him I would make my drawings match what the client says he wants even though it doesn't match anything I was given. And that I would not send the drawings out until after the client had reviewed his designers work so that if there were any further fixes I would take care of those after they were known and locked down on paper....
Oh and the second instance I am not even going to get into.... people are just funny creatures some times.
