I hate being my own boss sometimes... having to harass people to pay me and then having try and explain every small little detail of my invoice over and over and over again. If people would pay more attention to contracts, things would be so much easier. Today I had to argue with someone about payment... spent 2 hours fighting over 250 bucks. I finally said they could pay me for this job and I will walk the other I have and won't bid on the next one and then they got all apologetic, told me shit like it's not you it's us.... we're stressed and don't realize how tied down we are with schedules, blah blah blah, blah blah.
Some times I just want to go back to working for a big corporation and get a regular under paid check doing a mundane job for a company that has no quality control and pads their invoices with a "just in case we get sued fee".
Seriously I think if everyone lived and worked by my values people would be so much happier.
"Work quick, have fun, double check."
"Invoice honestly, don't hide fees, charge fairly."
"Don't over step your experience."
I think too many people believe multitasking is the only way to make money. If you know how productive you are and understand work takes effort and anything worth doing is worth doing right, you might just see that the quality of your product may just bring you more work. Under cutting bids just to get a project is cheating and usually ends up costing someone in the end. Client or Business someone will get screwed, I would rather
do a job have someone rave about my work and get a new client than be known as the cheapest client in town. Also I think over pricing work because a client has a larger income is just unethical. If you know what you can do a job for don't ask for more because the person can afford it... once they find out you over charged you will loose that client. Repeat business is the best business.
I just realize this rant sounds very cliche and I am going to stop myself now.
