I didn't predict a riot
But I found a protest.
I went back to Leeds over the weekend, hence the laziness when it came to updating. Along with the copious booziness and lung busting from visiting my favourite cigar shop with m amigos, I stumbled upon a large group of "alternative" people holding a protest. Apparently, because Leeds centre is having a bit of cash pumped into it, with a lot of new bars and developements for the well off, the people in City Hall are trying to sweep aside anything they think might look "unsightly".
The Corn Exchange is one of the attractions of Leeds centre, beautiful building full of little boutique shops selling all things nice, from skate clothes and accessories to a shop specialising in sex stuff
via Goth and Coffee. It's a fucking ace place, I spent my youth (15 onwards) hanging around inside and outside it when I visited the city centre and the little money I had went on stuff inside it. It became a place where you could go meet up with people with similar tastes in music and clothes, it started with a mainly metal grouping, but then the punks and skaters joined up as well.
All these young people are hanging out, meeting up, and generally making no trouble, yet the council wants to move them on, simply because they might put some yuppy fucks off their cappucino on the way to work or something. The council are using the police to issue the infamous ASBO (Anti Social Behaviour Order), a police order than bans the kids from meeting up outside the corn exchange. They're also using dispersal orders with the same effect, to try and stop young people meeting up in a safe environment where stuff they're interested in is.
I got some pics of their demonstration against the treatment they've been getting:
"Best in Leeds" - The Kids
I liked this pic of the silhouette of the revol flag against the painting of leeds heritage on the wall...
Finally, to lighten up a bit, check out the destination of my train
Huh huh. it says penis.
