First journal entry and I can feel the power surge through my fingers as I type mighty words of wisdom.

Fools ask: "But Edd, you already have a blog, can you really find content for a journal as well, whilst keeping your baccinalian life of pleasure intact?"

Edd replies: "Ha, I'll simply make shit up or sloppily rehash one entry in the other, no-one will ever be the wiser"

So, in the spirit of sloppy regurgitation/ fantasy exaggeration, I launch my journal kiss
sickboyedd:
My day #9066

I better give an insight into the daily grind, if only to explain my wretched outpourings. I'm a scientist, I work in the field of evolution, more specifically behavioural ecology.

More specifically, I look at the behaviour of wasps eeek

After 3 years, I can come up with the following:

1. Wasps don't like being touched. They will sting you if you touch them.

2. Wasps don't like you touching their nests, they will sting you if you touch them.

3. Wasps don't like you going near their nests, in fact, don't even look at them, they will sting you.

4. Wasps like stinging you.

The problem is, the more they sting me, the more I love them. I know it's a bad relationship but, deep down inside, I know wasps aren't bad. They do all the things I like to do, buzz around looking for booze and food, hanging out, going to fairs and movies andsmoking crack cocaine whilst having unprotected sex with strangers.

Just in case friends and family are reading, the last one is a joke smile

The good thing about my wasps is that they live in the Meditteranean basin, in southern Spain near Cadiz, so for 4 months of the year I get some sunshine and time on the beach in the name of research...

Now, however, I'm in London, it's getting darker every day and all the wasps are either dead or sleeping. Today I drank way too much coffee and spent 5 hours moving miniscule amounts of wasp DNA from one tube to another, before shoving it into a machine that makes more of it. Tomorrow I'll move that DNA into other tubes and drink an even more obscene amount of coffee. That, my dears, is science biggrin

It might sound boring, and, to be honest, the practical side of things pretty much is when I'm in the lab. But I get to hang out with a bunch of people from around the world and talk the same sort of trash I'd do at home with my flatmates, so everything is great. I never knew they had Dogtanian in Portugal, with the same music but different lyrics, every day I learn something new about the world wink

Righty, enough blabber from me,

Today, whilst grinding DNA, I have been mostly listening to:

Kanye West - Late Registration
dEUS - Pocket Revolution
Sufjan Stevens - Michigan
Iron and Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
At the Drive In - Relationship of Command
