So I just had my earlobes stretched from 18 ga. to 10 ga. Four holes. Really, it didn't hurt as much as you might think.
All that jewelry was pricey, though. That hurt.
_________
She left with words to the effect
That my future would be better
Without her, or hers without me.
My life since then makes me suspect
The latter; I'm not any happier.
Though she sometimes caused pain, I see
Now that there were far more good times,
Times when things really felt right.
Without her - without the deep talks,
Her lyrical voice like chimes
Echoing in my mind at night -
Without her - without the rambling walks,
When the sunlight was in her hair
And her hand was clasped tight in mine -
Without her there's only pain,
Pain and nothing; there's no joy there,
Just emptiness. Life is a flat line,
Or water rushing down the drain.
She said I'd be happier without her.
I guess she was wrong about that.
That leaves only the second claim.
I can't argue; it's likely true
That without me she'd be better off.
I can't blame her for leaving.
So when she spoke to me of love,
A love filled with sorrow and grief,
Despair and torment, but undying,
I didn't know what to think.
Sometimes I'm a bit obtuse.
Did she say she loved me?
Or goodbye?
All that jewelry was pricey, though. That hurt.

Likewise, I'm sure.
