Wow - I never imagined I'd have such difficulty finding paper on which to print my book. I plan for the finished product to be quarto sized - about the size of a letter sheet folded in half.
I planned this size, because my inkjet will print a letter size sheet easily. I don't have a large format printer.
Unfortunately there's no such thing as a short grain letter size paper. Short grain means the paper's grain runs the short direction, rather than the long way as is typical. This is important, because the grain of a book has to run parallel to the spine, otherwise the pages warp and bubble.
If I use standard printer paper, when I fold it in half the grain will be going the wrong way. No good.
So, next option: buy 11" by 17" inch paper and cut it in half so I have letter sheets. Since it was originally long grain, when I cut it in half the two pieces will be short grain.
Now, I know 11" by 17" paper exists. I just can't find any that will go through the inkject. It's all laser printer.
Maybe I'll have to break down and buy myself one.

Aha! Kinko's has all sorts of ledger size paper! Perhaps I'll go there and make them help me.

And they weren't extravagently priced. They were completely reasonable. And they fit just right, and looked cute. I couldn't just leave them behind.
