Sorry I did not post anything here. Thank you ElizabethShort for creating this thread. ♥
I was live tweeting from Sunday through today (day & night) on my and SGNY's twitter accounts.
Please follow @SGNY for all things NYC related. Not necessarily group-related stuff, but mish mosh of things. Have been tweeting more. It's private, so just let me know who you are on the group and I will let you in. PM or whatever.
My twitter account @siamkittie for all things foodie, boozie, NYC, wacky, rants, everything. Be forewarned, I tweet A LOT!
It's really bad all around. Obama will be in Jersey tomorrow to survey the area. Not one area was spared. I had gone out yesterday during the hurricane because I had craving for cured meats and fancy cheeses (crazy, I know), and it was a war zone. Umbrellas were useless as the winds were so powerful.
When Sandy was at her peak around 8pm, I really thought my AC unit was going to get sucked out of my window. Lights flickered a lot, but I still had/have power. My parents live on the South Shore of LI and they lost power since 9pm yesterday. They are lucky that the downstairs kitchen has a gas stove so at least they can boil water and eat. Millions of people all over the Island, Jersey and especially Lower Manhattan are still out of power. Probably will be days or weeks.
Subways will take may be 3-5 days to function again. A lot of the tunnels are still flooded. Lower Manhattan had their electricity purposely turned off since the water had swelled so high and it's salt water so it effects everything. Can cause chemical reaction. So before they can do anything, they have to pump the water out, clean/de-salt and make sure everything is okay before they can start anything.
People thought Irene was a joke. It was all dependent on which area you were living in. I got hit hard with Irene and a tornado...in QUEENS! They did not take this seriously and now half the city/state is underwater.
Will update more here. Here are some links/pics of how bad shit got last night and the aftermath, today.
On a brighter/funnier note, Bloomberg lights to speak in Spanish during his press conferences. Follow El Bloombito and thank me later.
Also, during his press conferences yesterday, I was mesmerized by his ASL chick. I couldn't stop staring at her because she was so animated. I don't even remember much of what Bloomberg was saying. Lydia Cala's face
Sorry so long, but I hope I was able to inform those out-of-state. And everyone please stay safe. Next time, I'm just going throw a hurricane sleepover party.
Donate to Red Cross via blood or money or volunteer (if you can get there and you are safe), everyone needs help someway, somehow.
Everyone please be safe and I hope everyone including their families are doing well, with or without power. We can all help support each other.
