No classes yesterday. Spent all day in protests, rallys, forums, sit-ins and teach-ins responding to a hate crime on campus. Got sunburned in the process, should have been working on my senior thesis, but it would have irresponsible of me not to stand up for this. This isn't some distant political issue we have no say in. This is here. This is our home. Our brothers and sisters. My friend Lily is afraid to walk alone on campus. Because she's black. This is her home, godammit. She should be safe here. For that matter, I shouldn't be afraid that someone will notice I'm queer, either. How many people know about the white supremacy group associated with CMC? Not enough. Four CMC professors are members of this group. One of these profs recently told his class that all homosexuals should be shot to death. What did the school do about it? Nothing. Not a thing. How many of us know about this? Not enough. There is no excuse not to know about these things. No one here has a right not to know that this isn't the first time a prof's car has been vandalized with racist intent in the last couple years. And this is something we can work on. We can DO this. Because it isn't far away. It's here. There are things we can change that will make it less likely for this KKK bullshit to continue. I helped draw up the list of administrative demands yesterday and these are things that can happen and can help. Because things have got to change. They've got to. I live here. This is my community so it is my job to make sure they change. There is no excuse for less.

Sounds like something I went through on my campus senior year.
My advice, if you want it, is to make sure that you get something from the administration beyond promises and intents.
I hope every turns out okay, and if I could, I'd be standing next to you rallying!
