I'm getting worn down. Stressful times. Just heard today that one of the other English majors... Her thesis is literally killing her. She's developed a heart condition due to the stress. Good lord.
I saw a friend today who I don't see very often, and I told her we should hang out... She was like, "Yeah, totally! Wanna come over to my house and... Study in the same room?" And my response was "TOTALLY!" Man, this thesis is making me such a loser. It's like I don't see people unless I can make it involve homework. I go over to Emory's and sit on the bed and do thesis until it's late. He's been buying a lot of books and "quiet time" things to do so that we can hang out while I'm working. He spent all weekend working on a puzzle. And see, I can justify going to this cocktail party on Thursday because Sam will be there and he knows a ton about the author I'm writing about. This is what happens when he and I are at a party: A bunch of people are standing around, laughing and drinking... I say, "Hey, Sam! What do you think is the significance of the similarities between Ellis' 'New Scum' and Thompson's discourse on the 'New Dumb?'" Sam starts talking, and within about 30 seconds, everyone who was standing in our little group has moved away. And Sam will say a bunch of really insightful things. But then the next morning I won't be able to remember a damn bit of it because I was stupid enough to try to talk about it when I was drunk (This has happened about three times).
I walked past a TV the other day and the Lakers were playing. And hey, there on the screen was that guy I went to high school with. I forgot he was a Laker now. Heh. I remember the time he broke a table in study hall.
It's looking like Kat might come out and visit for a week after spring break. This raises some interesting issues. Hmmm. Ever since the last incident with her, I've been giving it a lot of thought, and, to be honest, I don't forsee myself talking the "high road."
