Like the title implies, I spent my first day in the professional kitchen last Friday! Although it wasn't super busy (giving me a very good chance to get a taste of the work minus the pressure) I enjoyed myself doing various chores like washing and slicing the vegetables, whipping up some cream, and preparing a simple mustard dressing. The menu itself was great, and I would have taken some photographs of it if I had only had the opportunity. Unfortunately, service had not yet started before I had to go back home so none of the dishes were quite finished. I did manage to steal some pics from the internet though, and I can always just share the menu with you guys!
Now as I'm sure I mentioned, I'm working at a vegetarian restaurant to gain better insight into the world of the greens without meats to be better able to cater to my veggie friends (and also, why not?). Here's the menu:
A spread of white beans, rosemary, and garlic with a loaf of bread (we do not make the bread ourselves),
heartwarming soup of potato and pumpkin,
tofu and nori rolls with a tomato and sage sauce, served with a celeriac puree with fried mushrooms, hummus of carrots and red cabbage chutney, and a mixed lettuce and pine nut salad,
kwee pear tarte tatin with whipped cream.
