I usually feel a bit gloomy around the holiday season, but this sort of thing raises my spirits: tonight I had nine friends over for dinner. Last week I decided upon a theme for the meal, being the colours of the rainbow. So here I do thee present... six of those (my first starter went by so fast I couldn't photograph it!)
The table, set for ten.
Red cabbage gazpacho à la Heston...
A blue sunrise lemon sorbet to cleanse the palette...
Steamed whiting in a cucumber sauce...
A selection of yellow winter vegetables (parsnip in maple syrup, sweetcorn in butter and honey, witlof with truffle oil, while roasted garlic, rainbow carrots, and sweet potato)...
Stuffed beef and bacon pie, which looked burnt but the flavour was great. It came with buttered carrots which are not pictured.
Cheesecake with cranberry sauce...
And to wrap things up, my friend made this amazing rainbow jello snowflake. Blue curaçao, apple, orange, and strawberry if I recall correctly.
