Happy 17th of may to all the Norwegians out there!
Yes, today Norway celebrates it's constitution.
After an unfortunate war, which Denmark-Norway lost to Sweden, Sweden grabbed Norway as loot.
Well Norway wasn't having any of this, so we made a constitution in 1814 which we forced the Swedish king to accept, which gave us our own parliament and limited the power of the Swedish King.
Later, in 1905, we gained full freedom from the Swedes (which is heavily celebrated this year) and took a Danish Prince as our King.
Knowing this it is easy to see why Norwegians love the Danes and strongly dislikes the Swedes.
In Norway (and all over the world where there is more than one Norwegian) this day is celebrated with childrens parades.
All Norwegians from they kan walk a couple of kilometres til they are 19. In front are the school marching bands.
Very special. Many other countrys celebrate their national days with a military parade. In Norway the children march in the streets.
And to those who wonder about the difference between Norway and Sweden: When the Swede Alfred Nobel established the Nobel Prices, he placed the prices for litterature, science etc in Sweden, but the Nobel Peace Price he placed in Norway. Tells you all you need to know about us really.

I guess I had never really thought abt why bending down/squatting while talking to a person in a chair would be annoying ... when I read books on parenting, they teach parents to come down to their kids level while talking to them .. just so they know that everyone is at the same "level". I guess thats what most ppl are trying to do when they bend down to chat with you .. but I can see how that might make u feel childish
