2008. A Great Oddity.
And so we sit the glow as a new year dawns upon us. Is it time to reflect on what has past? Or is it a time to gaze towards the future and wonder what will become? It is more likely a little of both, as they say hindsight is 20/20 but you shouldn't keep your head stuck there.
So Christmas came and went and in the spirit of all things turned overly commercial. I was somewhat surprised at myself for appreciating the more "old school" Christmas carols a little more this year, a bit of Silent Night never hurt anyone. But it begs reflection, am I becoming more eclectic? An artsy wanker? Am I just getting old?
In the spirit of continued commercialism, I received and gave presents. Highlights include a couple of Maple Leafs shirts, multiple Toblerone bars, and a book of pictures that has joined other random collectables in my "glory box".
Following Christmas was the annual Boxing Day cricket match between friends and family. The Oldies claimed victory by not actually remembering the score and deciding the Youngies had to score 10 runs of the last over, which then became 6 off the last ball. I was fully confident in my ability to hit that six as well, given that a legal ball was bowled to me. What I got was a head high beamer two yards outside leg stump.
From their to New Years is generally a quiet period for most people, however there was a conspiracy to disrupt this amongst my friends. Yes my best friend Kelly had decided that she and her fiance, Michael (also my friend whom I've known for longer than Kelly), would get married on the 29th. I was given the role of usher for their wedding and to my extreme horror was asked politely to wear a pink tie. Unfortunately Kelly is one of those people I can never turn down, so I fronted up in a pink tie and tails and proceeded to be the ultimate Go'Fer for the day.
The ceremony and reception went spectacularly and without a hitch, it was an absolute dream to watch it all unfold. I sat there and snapped a few shots here and there which are viewable in various locations.
The New Year was welcomed in at the Belvoir Ampitheatre, not 200 metres away from where the reception was held a few nights previous. Naras Entertainment packed an awesome drum'n'bass lineup to welcome 2008 with Noisia, TC, Calyx and TeeBee among others, and local boy DJ Spore rounding out the night.
So a look back on 2007:
