I've actually had a fairly good few days recently, ranging from good tunes, to good people, to more good tunes, to more good people and then some good sport. Its a pity work is such a grounding experience. I'd hate to say I was working for the weekend but currently that's how things are panning out. But the weekend is a little bit too short, so sometimes you have to work for the weekend and a little bit more.
Thursday night. For those who joined me and a few other thousand odd folks at the Burswood dome, it was quite the experience. As is common for a gig my crew met up at a nearby pub for a few starters to oil the joints a bit. Dave had downloaded a set list from the Melbourne show a few nights before so we knew what we were in for. Urvin won a free pint on some promotion thing. Good times. Chris Cornell and band were lazy as openers but it didn't matter. Some highlights:
- The light show.
- Given Up and Chester screaming live.
- The slow part of the set especially Hands Held High
- One Step Closer (after 6 odd years it was worth the wait)
- Bleed It Out including the massive drum solo
- and finally the extended version of Faint
Friday came and went. I was fairly tired so I didn't do much at all. Caught up on a few TV shows.
Saturday was tops. I hit Freo and realised a mate who I'd not seen in ages was working in the bar I'd just passed, so I doubled back and stopped in for a chat. After a bit I headed down to my favourite joint, Little Creatures. The night was shared with Kye, ampersand (whom I walked straight past on entering), MissEllie, sea_monkey, sugar_tsunami and the other chick with the cute pixie-ish smile whose name I forgot (sorry!). Good food, good beer, good conversation was all consumed in various amounts, with the group splitting and Kye, ampersand and I heading into Perth to dance the night away.
Sunday was a nice relaxing day, until it came time for social hockey. I love this sport, but there's something frustrating about trying to catch a 16 year old whippet who's just dispossessed you and is sprinting down the field. Needless to say I got a huge workout, and my left calf muscles are not thanking me for it. But it was fun, and thats the main thing here.
I'm gonna buy frozen peas and throw them at you.
What are your thoughts on Faker?
Call me curious... or consider me to be entertaining the idea of doing a mini-road trip with you either:
a) stashed in the boot
b) playing navigator.
