This is the charming email I got from my Republicunt mother tonight after Obama was elected: I added some of my own remarks in parentheses.
Good Evening,
Just talked to Robert (one of my best friends in my hometown), he was talking about you voting for Obama. I told him I doubted if you really voted, but was sure you would have voted for Obama even though you told me he had no experience. (I never said that, and i fucking early voted thank you very much). I know Jack (my boyfriend) is extremely left wing (yes, he is very left wing, he gives my mom free coffee and t-shirts) so I know it would be hard for you to lean any other way. I know I am the only one in the family who believes in the moral, right and wrong types of things.(Shut your face you greedy, judgmental ice queen) I love America and am so grateful we had a President who kept me and my family safe when war was declared on us in September 2001. (Are you fucking serious). Anyway, what a sad day for America, but we are strong and will prevail. Just remember, Obama will tax your restaurant so much that they will have to lay many people off or close, the same will happen to Jack's coffee shop. Your taxes will go up a great deal.
Love,
Mom
My response to her was less than friendly, I have had enough of this shit. This is what I wrote:
Mom,
I found your email to be very offensive. I did vote, in fact I voted before Jack did, and I voted in the last election as well. Do you really think Jack is so "extremely left wing" and influences my thinking? He has never been anything but nice to you, and I don't appreciate you bringing him into this. I also believe that I am very moral and do the "right" things in my life. So does Jack, and you know that. I love this country too, and am grateful to live here, which is why I voted for the candidate that I believe has the best interest of this country at heart. I do believe that it was YOUR president that was on watch when September 11th happened. I really think my restaurant and Jack's job will be safe with Obama in office, since they have both done well in this current economic crumble. I really wish we didn't have to argue about things like this, I don't like being attacked for doing something I believe in. It's not fair. The whole point of this country is having the freedom to think and vote as we see fit, and it should not be a family issue.
