Cosmos by Carl Sagan.

My interest in Space and the Stars began with this amazing TV Series shown in 1981 on BBC2 at 9pm for 3 years. Carl Sagan (Not to be confused with Agent Smith from the Matrix biggrin ) wonderfully takes us through Episode after episode covering subjects such as Evolution, Quantum Physics and Gravity in an easily understandable and relaxing way.

I loved looking at the Stars as a child, going to the seafront and seeing the constellations at night, the moon the way they were always there every evening through the Binoculars. Watching TV shows such as The Sky at Night with Patrick Moore or The Planets with Heather Cooper. The Voyager Flyby's staying up late to see the first images of Saturn and its Rings. The images from telescopes of stunningly beautiful Galaxies and Nebulae. This Series, is an exploration ride using Carl Sagan's way of communicating complicated idea's in the simplist manner combined with the stunning music from Vangelis.

The Series is a journey into the known Universe (Of the early 80's) and a discussion into what lies beyond. Concepts explained with clarity and the beauty of the Night Sky shown in all its glory. Cosmos sets the example of showing the ordinary adult or child that Space is to be explored and enjoyed not ignored. I for one hold this series in my heart as my first and foremost favourite childhood memory from TV and remains a series that still informs today.

Please enjoy the clip and remember, for 1981, this was cutting edge for the time. If you don't like astronomy or anything to do with it, just take time to watch, I'm sure you'll enjoy the passion Carl Sagan has for his chosen field and shares this with the viewers.
