Well ladies and gentlemen, I am back from an extended leave of absence. Though I agree any extended absence from SG is craziness, sufficed to say I am ecstatic to be back in the midst of like minds.
A lot has changed since my last appearance on SG, and I will tell the tale for all those interested intrigued by the journeys of a midwesterner. Last I spoke, I was a recent graduate from the University of Northern Iowa. Life was grand. No deadlines, no projects, no bitchy internship supervisors or professors, just me and BeckyJane frolicking around the cedar valley without a care in the world. Life was grand for the two of us, at least so I thought.
A few months of job searching and bar hopping go by and my hopes of a job offer begin to fade. Shadows of cliques still lurked in my mind, as nightmares crept along short always between rejection emails and sleeping critics. Dreams of a successful career seemed such an illusion. So, I finally decided to take the leap to Florida.
Today, I have a job at the University of Central Florida as a graphic designer. It is a small cry from the design job I dream about, but at least now I am closer. I have my own apartment in a tropical state, and my childhood dreams of being within driving distance of a beach are finally a reality. Maybe one day I'll get that design job for NASA, but for now at least I am finally myself.
