Hey hey SG land!!
Trying to catch up with the assignments that @Missy and @Rambo are giving to us! I really love the idea, I just need a little more time to sit ,relax, and write! But I promise, I'll try to write about all the topics, even if it's out of date!
So... my first tattoo huh? I am not a mega tattooed girl, you can tell. At this moment I have 5 small simple tattoos. I must say I love simple lines, and I don't think they're 'coward' tattoos, as someone I know said. I don't need to prove anything, and I LOVE them. Plans for something bigger and colorful? Sure! But now let's talk about my first.
I can't remember if I was 18, 19 or even 20! I'll go for 19... So let's say I was 19. I wanted a tattoo for as long as I can remember. I clearly have this image in my head, being at Disneyland in Paris with my family and seeing this asian girl. My God was she pretty! She had short hair, a red dress and a flower tattooed on her shoulder. She was one of my first girl crushes and my first tattoo crush, if I might say so. I was 8 years old and I decided one day I'll get my body some ink. Maybe it would be a single tattoo, maybe a bunch, something colorful, black & white, minimal, big, stupid or meaningful, but I wanted it bad.
I spent a lot of years thinking about WHAT I would get tattooed and went through a lot of ideas but they always had something in common. They had to have a special meaning for me. And yes, music is a common source of inspiration, so it was mine too. I am a MASSIVE fan of Suede and therefore, of Bowie. I played with the idea of STARS in my mind. Because of Ziggy/LadyStardust, DogManStar, MyDarkStar and all and in the end, probably 'cause I was afraid of getting something bigger cause my mum's such a conservative person and she would probably kill me, I chose a simple star on my wrist. I love the arms for tattoos. Arms, their insides, the wrists... they look just beautiful, and I didn't want to completely hide it, but at the same time I could just wear a big bracelet or watch to cover it when needed.
About getting tattooed I must say it didn't hurt as I expected. I was really nervous but as the needle started to work its magic on my skin, my fear was all gone and I knew I was going to enjoy those 10 minutes. Ha ha.
One year later I found out about SG, and there were a lot of girls with the same kind of stars tattooed, they even used it in one of their t shirts! it made me feel more connected to the site in a way. And yes, suddenly everyone was getting stars on their wrists, elbows, shoulders, stomachs, and backs... but I don't regret it, and every time I see my first SG set I smile at the pictures where I try to pose to show off my tattoo:)
Years later, in my first trip alone, in London, I went to a small tattoo shop in Camden Town, it was called Needle FX I think, and I completed my star with the phrase ' My Dark Star' above. It is one of my fave Suede songs, it suited the tattoo perfectly and then I felt it was complete. My first tattoo was 'finished' in a period of 6 years if you want to think about it that way, but now I have what I always wanted. A ink that is also a homage to the idols I've grown up with.
Fun fact: The same day I got the My Dark Star text, I went to see Suede perform the album Dog Man Star in whole at the Brixton Academy, they played the song, and later that night I got to meet Mr. Brett Anderson, had a little chat with him for 5 minutes, showed him my tattoo and he grabbed my wrist and seemed very pleased while he was saying how cool it was... And then he left and I bursted into tears.
What's your story about your first tattoo?
Love,
Sheer
