So last night the #BlackheartBurlesque show was incredible! I'll be posting pictures later. But, not only was it cool to meet the performers (Whiskey, Peneloppe, Cartoon, Liryc, Shay, and the MC and performer Sunny), but I got to meet some local SGs ( @marajade @joey ) and talk to them for a bit.
I was telling them that for me, the interaction we all have is really cool, because even though they are SGs they still act like "normal people" which I know sounds odd. Joey knew what I was trying to say, because she said "We act normal, not like bitches" which was exactly what I was trying to convey. Marajade said, "If you don't act like an asshole to us, then of course we're going to talk to you like a normal person, cuz that's what we all are!" (and my apologies if I'm paraphrasing a bit, but I don't remember word for word what was said).
On this site, for the most part we're all pretty good about talking to everyone (members, Hopefuls and SGs) like we would like to be talked to, and if someone steps out of line we tend to police our own, as the expression goes. Sure, there are a few who don't, but usually they either stop being a member when they realize that kind of behavior isn't tolerated or appreciated, or they learn to keep quiet.
But, we've all seen it on some of the ladies' Instagram accounts or Facebook pages or Twitter, where some people think that just because they choose to take off their clothes they can talk to them like they're a piece of meat. And that is some bullshit, which we all know. However, what about outside of our little community?
You've all seen it. The woman working the counter at the McDonald's is treated like she's an idiot because she is in fast food. Or the waiter who is treated like he's a serf and has commands barked at him by his customers. The garbage man, who others look down on because he does a necessary job. The janitor, who has to clean up messes by people that should be adults and know better. The teacher, who is yelled at when someone's kid didn't get an A on their paper because they didn't do the work (and by the way, the expression "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach" makes a mockery out of a career that is essential to our society advancing forward, and it's damn insulting). Whatever career someone has chosen, doesn't give anyone the right to stop talking to them like they're a person. No matter what job you do, you're still a person and should be treated with respect.
And, I wish it was just that, but you also see it when it comes to where someone may be from or what their religion is. You all know what I'm talking about. Just because someone is Muslim or from another country doesn't mean they should be treated like shit; they are still human, and still deserving of being treated with respect.
So, I just wish that the attitude we have here in our little community would spread out to the rest of the world. Don't talk to people like you're an asshole, treat them with respect, and you'd be amazed on how well that's reciprocated. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Much love to all <3
