Its been a month and a half months since my last confession... But I did warn y'all, I'm not much of a blogger. Anyway, the first semester of school is down, and as I predicted, Writing Composition kicked my ass. So much so, I have to retake it.. Start the next semester next week, and in addition to the writing class (different teacher, so different assignments, I hope), I'm taking the next level of math, 95, and "Analysis and Evaluation of an Argument" class. Its an intro Philosophy class, and should be interesting. I've always been good at introspection, but arguing? Not my strong suit. And I have roommates who come up with the craziest arguments. Borderline Sovereign Citizens. And I want to smack one of them every time he tells me I was foolish and/or hoodwinked when I joined the Corps. He's a good guy to his friends, but he's one of those who I think wouldn't help someone in trouble because he doesn't know them, thus it's none of his business. I, on the other hand, am a White Knight. Gave a (seemingly) drink and/or high stranger a ride 15 minutes out of my way at two in the morning because she asked. And got laughed at for an idiot by all of my roommates. The one who's known me since the Corps shrugged it off as just being me and the woman thought it was nice, if a little foolish/naive. Of course the asshole (he is, by personality, an asshole) just thought it was naive and stupid. But I'd do it again, even if I found it was a setup to get mugged.
I recently watched a couple of videos, by people trying to see if people would help others in a public situation. One was a couple of guys playing out a (severe) bulling situation. Another was people acting out a child kidnapping. The fake bullies were just pissed that so few people responded, but the fake kidnappers pointed out what is called the "Bystander Effect", wherein the more people you have present, the less likely someone, anyone, will respond. Looking back at the bully scenarios, I notice that when someone did respond, it was when there were very few, and usually no other, people present. So the lesson is, White Knights, act regardless of who is around, and normal, non-naive people, pick up your damn cellphones!!!!! I know you have them. Call the cops, take a picture or video, something! Even a single picture will give the cops more to go on then a thousand witness statements. People get things wrong. Picture don't. And frankly, I think that a person doing something wrong will be more scared of a bunch of people taking pictures than by a couple of big, strapping black guys moving to flank them (It happened in the kidnapping video. I was mildly amused that the only people to actually move to help were a couple of black guys. Take that, stereotypes!). Point being, do something.
"It has been said that for evil men to accomplish their purposes it is only necessary that good men should do nothing" (Rev. Charles F. Aked [And before you correct me, Edmund Burke said something similar, but this was not his quote. I checked :) ]).
So, in other news, my truck is now actually mine! Finally paid him off. Now I'm just waiting for the title to get to me. Holy crap, I actually own a vehicle!
