It's another beautiful late morning in Southern California. The air is clean and crisp, thanks to last night's rain.
There are few things in this life I enjoy more than making love in the rain. The morning after comes close though. I just love the feeling of waking up in a warm bed with my lady wrapped around me and the cool morning air seeping through my window. It's really a delicious combination.
The more I look at the things I enjoy, the more I realize that I'm a fan of balance. Whether it be a warm bed and a cool breeze, or a nice spicy cigar paired with a sweet aged port balance is the key. The more I strive to find balance in my life, the happier I become. It sounds silly when I write it. You'd think it would be common sense. And yet, for some reason, it's taken me 33 years to figure it out. I began to learn of the importance of balance when I started cooking. The salty, smoky flavor of a thin slice of prosciutto is great, but when you wrap it around a juicy piece of melon and it becomes something so much more. The same basic principle seems to apply to anything. I'm assuming this means I'm salty and smoky, whereas Christa is sweet and juicy? Anywayyou get the idea.
By the way, I certainly don't mean for these journals to be my way of telling anyone how to live. I'm not assuming that I know enough to "teach" anyone anything. I've just found that even though I already know these things, writing them down seems to help me truly absorb it.
It's about time for me to put down the laptop and get back to enjoying this day with my beautiful family.
I'll leave you with a couple images of my morning.
A full bodied Arturo Fuente Opus X cigar
and that sweet Port I mentioned
Life is (still) good.
