Hi SGLand, how are you all? I hope well! Today I ate for the first time açai in the form of dessert and I remembered a distant childhood that I have already told here where food shortages were a reality and my family used açai as a way to complete meals, I consumed this food for years totally different way. In my city it is a food as common as meat and fish on the plate. It was the first time that I consumed it in the form of dessert and all this nostalgia reminded me of a regional story that I heard in childhood and I decided to share it with you!
What many do not know about Açai is that it is a food of indigenous origin, consumed by the natives of South America throughout the Amazon.
There is an old legend that says that there was a tribe with a large number of inhabitants where resources started to run out and people died of hunger! As a decision to contain the damage caused by the famine epidemic, Itaki, the then chief of the tribe, made the decision to sacrifice all children born after that date.
One day, this terrible decision directly affected Itaki. His daughter Iaçã gave birth to a child who soon had to be sacrificed in the name of his grandfather's order. Iaça suffered greatly from the death of his daughter, spent days and days suffering and crying. In this way Iaçã raised his thoughts to Tupã, an indigenous deity, and asked him to illuminate his father's ways to solve the food shortage without the need for more children to die. Tupã was touched by Iaça's pain and then one day Iaça heard a child's cry in the middle of the forest and when he arrived there he found his newborn daughter beside a palm tree. Iaça ran towards his daughter, who quickly disappeared.
Once again, inconsolable Iaça cried to death. The next day, Itaki found his daughter's body embraced by a mysterious palm tree with its neck raised to the top of the tree.
When observing the palm tree, Itaki noticed an abundance of a small dark fruit. He named it Açai in honor of his daughter. The Chief ordered that all fruits be harvested and with these fruits a very thick juice was made that fed the entire population and ended the food shortage.
And they make juice, ice cream, shakes and many other varieties. Have you ever eaten açai ???
As I already said, I live in the Amazon, here there are many incredible stories and stories! I love the regional culture! I hope you enjoyed!
