It's been a while since I"ve updated. My back got tweeked last Tuesday, but it's getting better.
I had to drop my statistics class. The teacher told me I needed a laptop w/ excel. This information wasn't in the course description. I was pissed at first, but then I realized I should have a laptop if I'm going back to school anyway. So, this semester I'm saving up for an ibook.
My guitar player is back after being in France for a month. We're supposed to rehearse tomorrow. I'd like to get the band in gear and play some shows.
Here's photos from my trip to Chicago. I am sparing you the familty reunion photos.
Phil Guy @ Buddy Guy's Legends. That's the first club we went to.
Joann Connor @ the Kingston Mine
My sisters.
Wallace Roney @ The Green Mill
Wallace Roney was chosen to play trumpet on a Quincy Jones tribute album to Miles Davis
We went to 5 clubs on three different nights. Rosa's was the best, but I didn't have my camera that night. It's in kind of a sketchy neighborhood, but it wasn't touristy and it wasn't full of whitey.
It was good to see some real people on stage rocking out. Musicians are expected to be glamorous in LA if they are to succeed.
It was really good to see my family. I got to play guitar w/ my Dad in my cousin's living room. I rode bikes around Northtown, Wellington, & Wicker Park. There were a few family squabbles, but I was able to avoid all of them. It was good to see my nephew, Jack. It was his 2nd birthday and the first time I got to meet him.
I love Chicago. If I were to leave LA, I'd probably move to Portland or Chicago.
Amazingly, I made all my 8am flights. I did accidentally leave my sleepy mask on one of the planes.
I have to go buy something for a baby shower that starts in two hours.....I really love going to baby showers as a bachelor. I do want to support my friends, but I dread the "So when are you gonna settle down and reproduce?" question.
I do have a new addition to my family. This is Mable. Yes, I name my guitars. She's completely hollow and I just can't keep my hands off her.
Other than that, lots of projects on the to-do list. Paint the bathroom. Press CDs, fix guitar amp, get new tires/rims for van, take cat to vet.
