I pretty much stayed home all weekend working on music and puttering around. It was a nice change after all the holiday silliness.
I wrote a new tune; How Can I Be So Rich?
How Can I Be So Rich?
One day I lost everything
Until I turned around
I forgot who I was
then my feet hit the ground
Can't seem to catch my breath
It's raining all over town
How can I be so rich
when I'm always down?
When I awake in the still of the night
I can still see my dreams
As long as you're here with me
I can take on anything
My friends they give me such fine times
Love's a wonderful sound
How can I be so rich
When I'm always down
Well I'm always down
I'm always down
But I'll always be rich
as long as you're around
You know life is slipping
with every tick of the clock
But I'll put the world on hold
Just to hear you talk
My friend's they give me such fine times
Love's a wonderful sound
I'll always be rich
even when I'm down
Well I'm always down
I'm always down
But I'll always be king of this town
as long as you're around
I'm always down
I'm always down
But I'll always be rich
as long as you're around
I'll always be king of this town
as long as you're around
I'll always be rich
as long as you're around
As long as you're around
as long as you're around
Love's a wonderful sound
I'm really happy with it. It's probably the most heartfelt thing I've written in a long time. It's obviously heavily influenced by Tom Waits, but I didn't set out for it to be that way. It just happens. I wear my influences on my sleeve because they're always going to poke through anyway. Sometimes when I write, it takes on a life of it's own and seemingly writes itself.
I had a mixup with Janet yesterday and we didn't end up going to LACMA as planned. I went over to the Punk Haus to watch the Packers lose and talk to fellow midwesterners.
Glen & I went to the Edendale Grill for dinner. I had a really nice salmon steak. Then, we went back to my house & played darts. Glen brought over a high end bottle of Centennario Plata tequila. I showed him the virtues of a tequila gimlet. I slept in today. I feel OK. A little bummed over the post holiday vacumn. Things will pick up soon. The important thing is that I'm staying busy.
I sent out invites for my birthday this Saturday at the Wild Hare. I'm looking forward to it. It should be a nice, warm gathering.
