Weekend Update:
Friday, Glen & I went to Mr. T's Bowl to have a few beers and saw a couple bands, but nothing remarkable. The bands weren't bad, they just weren't doing it for me.
Glen & I went back to my place and drank Scotch while listening to the Minutemen until about 3.
The exciting development is Glen has three guitars that he never plays. They are all "collector" items and they are really nice guitars. I've been riding him to play and he's actually started playing them! He cleaned them all up and tinkers around with them now he is on his work break. He's been talking about taking some lessions. I showed him my song book and said he could come over here and we could learn new tunes together. He actually said he was going to get his amp back from his neighbor so he could bring it over to play! How cool is that!
Saturday, I had to go to El Cholo for my friend, Chris', birthday. Chris is a good friend and he referred me for the job I'm still waiting to hear back on, so I had to go. I had the Annie's Original California Enchilada which was a veggie enchilada with a sweet corn salsa. It was grub-a-tronic.
Afterwards, I directed everyone to go to Frand & Hank's since it was just up the street. It started to sprinkle but I wasn't too worried about it even though I was on my motorbike. They found the place, but had to go find an ATM once they realized it was a cash only bar.
While inside waiting, I was talking to Chris & Amy's friend Tanya. I guess she's argumentative because she didn't believe me that Frank & Hank's was briefly featured in the film "Swingers". Then she took it one step further and proceeded to tell me I was flat out wrong because she owns the movie. I was amused and surprized but simply responded by saying "Maybe, but you might want to watch it again."
After everyone returned, we ended up loading up the jukebox (one of the best in the city) and playing group music trivia on one of those touch-screen games.
At one point, I was outside talking to a couple guys about motorcycles and I mentioned I'd seen a group that hangs out in Elysian Park on the weekends. It had stopped sprinkeling. Some other big friendly, drunk, Latino dude yelled, "Elysian Park? Where you from?" I simply replied, "Silverlake." He says, "Silverlake? That ain't no gang!" as he comes puts his arm around me. I laughed and said, "Did you really think I was down, bro?" and patted him on the back. He picked up on the cue and let me go. Too funny.
Later on, while inside, two older women came into the bar and sat behind us. One white woman in her late 50's or so and a younger black woman in her late 40's, probably. It seemed that they had just finished shopping as they had several bags with them. They had their drinks and were groovin' when they asked Chris & I why younger people don't dance. We offered a few theories such as 1) That's why we became musicians: we just shake our ass 2) The culture has changed with the media. Then, we asked them if they wanted to dance and they laughed at us and said no. What a burn!
The thing I love about Frank & Hank's, aside from the fact that my man, Tom Waits, used to hang out there is that when you go there, you see a cross section of LA. There's all kinds of folks there; Cholos, Korean dudes, plain ol' working class, hipsters, etc.
We stayed until closing time and then Mama-san, the boss lady bartender, decides to give Chris a birthday shot of Patron. We headed out to go home, but it had started rainging lightly. Fortunately, I keep a paird of rain pants in the trunk on my bike, but I still hate riding in the rain. It's hard to see, it's cold, and drivers in LA don't know what the hell they are doing. It's time like these that I'm really glad I installed the handgrip heaters on my bike. That took my mind off the cold and the fact that I spent entirely too much money on Chris' birthday outing.
Sunday, I just helped my friend, Phil, move into his new house. He sported my some food at Millie's, which I haven't been to in a couple of years. I spent the rest of the day working on music and watching Law & Order on DVD.
I promise my next post will be less reporting and more interesting.

Sounds like it was a very entertaining weekend for you. I think you should become a writer. You are good with description words.
I felt like I was there, man!
