Be wary of journal udates when hungover, unemployed, and we lost the vote...
Haven't written in a while. Spent the whole weekend goofing off. Friday, I hung out with my old roommate, Andrew. The best roommate I ever had. We had a few beers and watched the Lakers. They really suck now. Kobe is a brat.
Then, we sat around and played guitars. I got to try out some of my new set on him. After a while, we went for a ride so I could show off the ROCK VAN. We ended up going to Hank & Frank's, one of LA's finer dive bars. It looks a lot different than when Tom Waits hung out there, but it's still affordable and there's a great jukebox.
Afterwards, we started driving and I was thinking about hitting El Gran Burrito Y Midnight Tacos when Andrew said, "Hey man, pull over." Oh shit. Yeah, so I'm looking in the rearview mirror as cars pass us on 3rd street while Andrew is horking out the passenger door and onto the street. Fortunately there was none on or in my ROCK VAN. What a waste. He paid good money for all that alcohol and didn't even get to ingest it. It's a good thing I didn't drink as much as him and I didn't have the bong hit before we left the apartment.
Saturday, my friend, Jay, arrived. He stayed a couple nights before heading back to his woman & his store in Japan. We went to the Scene bar with Glen. The Red Onions are really overrated for a garage band in my opinion, but they're pretty popular right now. There was some band from Austrailia that was interesting. They used alternate tunings on their guitars and had some really cool harmonies and melodies. Their bass player & drummer were boring as hell.
Fortunately, they had $2.50 Pabst. ON TAP. Some band from Nashville called Lost Sounds played. Atari Teenage Oingo Boingo Polkacide. Big ol' one song. So many bands shouldn't stop in-between tunes. They're really just variations on the same song. Why not have a big medley?
There were six bands on the bill. Why is beyond me, but the last band got hosed because they only had maybe 20min tops before everyone got kicked out.
I'll be back there tomorrow for our show. We got the rocking 11:30 on a Tuesday slot. Well, you have to work your way up somehow.
Sunday, Jay & I went over to the punk haus for movies & bloody mary's. I took him to the airport at 5:30am. Needless to say, I haven't been very productive today.
I did send out our music submission for SG videos. That would be cool. I also put together a demo reel of little radio clips I did a while back but Carter has a friend in music placement that might be able to get me some work.
I still have to do our submissions for Pump audio as well. I would love to be able to work out of the house and get paid for doing music.
Right now, the water is off. They're fixing my shower. It's cold. My apartment is drafty. I'm ready to curl up on the couch and watch my Futurama DVD.
I called the guy about the A/V job today. He said they hired someone else who's cheaper but to keep in touch. He might be able to use me for some part time stuff on the weekends or maybe the guy they hired won't work out.
I had a very intense interview last week at Line 6. They interviewed me as if it were a board review. Three people with lists of questions. Some of them intended to trip me up. I think they did more to test my nervousness in an interview than my ability to think on my feet. I think I did a good job. I have about four referrals from within the company. It could go either way.
The nice thing is they don't have any probabtion period to qualify for benefits. They also have stock options. The downside is the commute is about 24 miles and it's tech support on the phone. I've already had that job, which I think would make me ideal. This would be easier, though, because their product line is smaller and centered more around guitar FX. It would be a good way to get in at the ground level and work my way up. It would also be a good job to have while going to school. I should know by the end of this week.
I have to get a job now. This is nuts.
Mom wrote me and asked me for a xmas list. I'd really like to boycott the holidays this year. I hope I can think of creative affordable gifts for people but right now I'm at a loss.
I met a cute gurly in my psych class. We only spoke briefly. She's young. Maybe too young. She alwasy has her hair up with wisps flying around. I love that shit. What really caught my attention at first were her blue socks with red windows floating on them. Big pretty eyes, not like an alien, but dreamy. I really liked it when she noticed the elastic around my leg, indicating I rode my bike, and she thought that was cool. Velvety voice. It would be nice if something came of it.
Tired of this dry spell. Love the sex but not the mind job games. All I'm looking for is a spectacular partner in crime with a big brain. Too much to ask?
