This weekend was a little more tame. Friday, we had our show at the Old Towne Pub. It ended up being pretty cool. I was a little apprehensive about potential Pasadena republicans and being told to turn down, but neither ended up being a problem. The show went well. It was HOT. I was actually blinded by my own sweat at one point. Foster had another brain loss during the set, but we managed to survive. I might start going over to his house for extra practice until he can remember everything. It's frustrating because he is such a killer bass player. If only he could remember what to play on stage without having to cue him.
I overcame my nerves and was actually a little extroverted on stage. Nick, though still majorly fucked up with his divorce, except for playing one song too slow, did a really good job. The feedback was good and ranged from "that last song will be stuck in my head all night", & "your sound is huge, bigger than should come from looking at you on stage" to, "you have improved", "you guys were loud, but not too loud".
I was happy. Usually all you get is "good set" or some wild comparison "you guys sound like Depeche Mode". Anyway, enough breaking my arm from patting myself on the back.
After the show, we ended up being stuck in the alley for far too long with the other bands. I ended up getting home at 3am and was surprised at how drunk I was from only 5 beers the whole night. Maybe it had to do with all the sweaty activity.
Saturday, mild hangover. I ended up going out to lunch with Carter at the Brite Spot. It's one of the few remaining old timey diners in the hood where the old people and the cops still eat.
Ended up making a KILLER dinner for myself. I broiled some Albacore steaks in Chipotle pepper sauce. I also sauteed some green beans in oil, garlic, lemon, & pepper. A little $2 Chuck Shiraz & I was friggin' STYLIN!
I hooked up with Glen and we went down to Hop Louie's in Chinatown to meet up with some friends. John almost got his car towed out of a Rite Aid lot, but he bribed him for $100 before getting into a fight with him & his boss.
We relocated to Barbara's down at the Brewery. The place was a little pretentious for my taste, but they had the Craftsman Hefeweizen I was drinking the night before on tap. We only had two beers before leaving because Glen had a 4:30 call time this morning.
I had a job interview today! It was at the Milken Family Foundation. I have to do some research to see if it's the same Michael Milken of SEC infamy for insider trading. Anyway, they are looking for a Audio/Video Tech for help in their machine room to make dubs. The bummer is it's a temp indefinite gig. Meaning, no bennies, they can let you go whenever, who knows when you'll get the boot? My guess is they do this for practical reasons. 1) they don't have to offer benefits 2) they can let you go whenever.
I'm pretty sure that's the case because while they were stressing there were no guarantees of advancement, they kept asking me about sound editing and live sound. Neither of which are in the job description.
The place was in a high security office building in downtown Sta. Monica. They are doing a full background check. They had nice, small facilities. It could end up being a cool job. Office attire was standard entertainment industry hip/casual attire.
I hope something good for me comes through because I'm almost out of time. If they hired me for six months, I'd be OK. Any less than that and there wouldn't be enough unemployment to live off of. Also, if it worked out I could take classes at Sta. Monica CC, which is much better.
Lord, please take mercy on my sorry, sorry ass.
