My body is getting back at me for last week's hijinx. I'm not full-on sick, but I've got a weird congestion, itchy throat fatigue thing going on. Yesterday, I got my haircut and dropped by my pal, Rico's, studio and drank a few beers. I spent the night at home eating Chinese leftovers and watching Kung-Fu Hustle. Not bad.
Today I slept & slept, made a nice breakfast, and went to the happiest place on earth; the $.99 store. They had asparagus, squash, & mushrooms. I'm going to make pasta.
Tomorrow is band practice. I hope the bass player shows up this week. We don't have any shows booked right now, but I want to record soon and we aren't well rehearsed. I'm frustrated w/ booking. I'll just have to deal until I get sick of it and start shaking places down. It's so frustrating booking shows.
After rehearsal, a friend is having a BBQ I might go to. They sit around and paint while they BBQ. Supplies are provided on a donation basis. It's called Art To Go. They do it at gallery's and parties sometimes. If you give them $5 you can request a painting and give them the concept to paint. Pretty cool.
I told my Dad about the upright bass I'm trying to buy and he said he could help me out but it would be my xmas present. That's so wonderful. I wouldn't care if he gave me anything so long as I get to see him this year. My guitar player's duaghter's boyfriend is selling the bass. He got it for $2K and is going to sell it to me for $900. It's an Italian company, but it's a Chinese made student model. It will be more than adequate for what I need to do. It's very rewarding purchasing and playing an instrument that is physically larger than yourself.
I can't pay for the whole thing at once, but at least I know it's going to happen. My old bass has been severely damaged for about 8 years. I'm going to see if I can get it repaired and donate it to the Silverlake Conservatory. With Dad's help, it will be a lot easier to do the xmas shopping. I've already started, but I want my shopping to be out of the way early.
Work is going well. It's been slow, which I don't like at all. The fall season starts this weekend, so things should pick up. Everyone's a little on edge not knowing what's going to happen next year once the parent company takes over. They did just announce that the xmas party will be held at the Beveryly Hilton, which will be much more accomodating than the location they had last year, way out in Woodland Hills or wherever the hell it was.

I'm already having dreams of Congressional investigations. I'm not sure they'll actually happen. But you know, I can dream about January at least.

I go to the Mexican market on Sunset near the Tropical for fruit and vegetables. I can buy so many veggies and fruit for $25, it's amazing. Then I create insane combinations in my juicer. My current fave is cactus pears, green apples, carrots, plum, one stick celery and a sweet potato. I know - it sounds insane, but it tastes delicious!
