I think I am finally recovered from the birthday. Thanks for all the bday wishes.
I went to a friend's party for a drink. His birthday is the 10th, so one of us will usuall throw some event and say it's for both of us. I got some nice gifts I'll havce to send thank-you cards for. Scotch, Chimay, Tequila, Bushmills.
Then, I met a dozen friends at Footsies. We ended up closing the place and getting locked in for an impromptu after-hours. I didn't drink a lot, just very rapidly.
Saturday, we had a brunch over at Amy's house. I had to go to rehearsal first. Amy had a bunch of leftovers from catering and was doing some serious cooking. It was really nice. There were a few waves of people. My friend, Dave Matke, gave me an amazing gift. He gave me one of his crosses with an inscription on the back. I was completely floored and humbled by such a gift. i have always loved Dave's work and he's a wonderful guy.
I had to leave the brunch around 7 to go to another rehearsal with Nathan Payne. Someone said, "you can't leave, it's your party!" I said I had to go to reheasal and they said to bring them back to the party. So I did.
We moved the couch out of the way and set up in the living room. It was fun. I love to do shit like that. I'm tired of having culture marketed. It's so much more fun to do things.
After the party, I dragged a bunch of people back to my house. We ended up staying up late talking and smoking hash. Tasty. I opened up one of my presents early and it turned out to be The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-69. I decided we had to watch it immediately and it is amazing. I played it for my friend Rico and it brought him to tears. I can't believe such a thing existed and I didn't know about it. My Dad is so damn cool.
Sunday, I slept late and went to play solo over at Rico's store. There were some white trash punkers there who were kind of lame but some friends showed up later and things were pretty relaxed. Afterwards, a bunch of us went to Good for dinner. I like all their beers and stuff, but I don't think the food is as good as it used to be. We were drinking some pretty strong stuff and things were getting boisterous right before it was time for us to leave.
We ended up going back to my house to watch more of the blues fest. I took Monday off to tinker around the house and clean up.
Things are OK right now. i have a lot of shit to do. I went in for Academic Counseling at PCC this week. It was a mindjob going back to USC to get a transcript. I think I might be able to take Bio on Saturdays.
We have a new manager starting this week. I know him. He works for one of our courier's. I think it'll be fun as long as they don't set him up for failure.
I went to the Velodrome last night at the Home Depot center to watch the track cycling gold cup finals. It was so cool! Those people are riding over 30 miles an hour. The match sprints were fascinating. I never really understood it until I saw it in person. They also did single sprints, 4 man pursuit, and the men's point chase. The place isn't very large and there isn't a bad seat in the house. The French men's match sprint champ was really something see. A Bulgarian woman also swept three catagories. There was an American woman who won the single sprints and the crowd interaction was really wonderful.
I'll have some photos soon.
