The show went really well. The bass player blew off rehearsal, which is not that big a deal, but he had trouble remembering a couple intros. Fortunately, the crowd had no idea. My tuner pedal crapped out in the first verse of the first song, I just bypassed it and continued. We had a good, hot & sloppy time. There was a decent crowd and we got a few people dancing. The house gave us a round & $45!
We're playing a house party 12/4 for a friend's housewarming. Their place caught on fire last year and the restoration work is almost complete. We're working on a new year's eve party in a loft downtown with 400 Blows and the Adolescents. Our guitar player is going to be out of town, so I'm trying to find a friend who can sit in.
We're also working on another date at the Airline, which is a new club near the brewery. I'm playing bass in a rock opera that will be performed this sunday. The drummer in that project and I hit it off. I might end up playing bass in his soul/funk cover band. I'd look forward to getting back on bass and not having to be the leader. It's my main instrument. The extra cash would be nice, too. We'll see if he follows through and gets me a cd.
I had to call my dad and tell him that I wasn't coming home. I waited too long to get a plane ticket and now they are $700. Mom's going to be in vegas after Christmas. I'm going to try and visit the old man for his birthday when the rest of the world isn't travelling.
I got my laptop up and running. I installed a wireless router over the weekend. It's nice to be able to sit where I want and work. It tends to be a little quirky compared to going straight into the DSL modem. I still have to figure out if I'm gong to fully implement all the security stuff.
I got my registration date for school. 1/24!/ Classes start 2/15. I hope there's a class open that fits my schedule by that time. That was the problem last semester. I just need to get past the first semester so I can get continuing student status for registration.
They were donig a promotion at my local El Pollo Loco where if you come back the next day with your receipt and a coupon, you can order whatever you want 1/2 off! I got a burrito on Saturday and came back on Sunday. I got a 12 piece family meal w/ tortillas & three sides for $11! I'm set for the week, man. I never get sick of making those chicken tacos. Ghetto!
Last night, I met some friends after work at Johnny's. I'd never been there before. It was cool. I think I'd go back as long as it's not too crowded. The place is really tiny. They did have this mezcal wine that was really refreshing and dangerous. Like a new acquaintance. (?)
This weekend is going to be crazy. Rehearsal @ 4 on Saturday. Kings game @ 7:30, we're going to take the train. Sunday, 9:30 meeting for the Doo Dah parade. I'm going to be marching with the Highland Park Gentlemen's Circuit Bending Society and Ladies Auxillary. Then, I have to see if I can get back to Echo Park in time for practice. Then, the rock opera performance sound check is at 4:30!
I better rest up.
