well, well, a new set from Dot and Fractal and Manko , now that's a great way to start the day!!
FIST OF LEGEND (1994)

as this is some sort of remake of FIST OF FURY (the 1972 classic and imo best Bruce Lee film) i have mixed feelings about this film. yes, Jet Li is incredible and the fight scenes are among the best ever, but the film itself is rather poor, especially compared to the original, which beats it easily in all aspects, most severly when it comes to music and storytelling. it's nice to see the japanese don't get as bashed as they got back in the seventies, though.
there are plenty of (long) fight sequences and there isn't that much going on between them really.
this is a must see for martial arts fans (only).
TAKEN (96 HOURS) 2008

there has been much raving for this one and i can't possibly see why. the plot has been seen many times before and in much better form. Liam Neeson actually is much more convincing than i'd expected, but nevertheless this has 24/DieHard ripoff written all over it. the first 30 min are painfully melodramatic, until the action takes over. there has been better and more brutal action on tv, so it doesn't even score on that aspect. it's exactly the sort of irrelevant action stuff that i don't like.
skip it!
