I went to Hopscotch last night; an annual premium alcohol tasting held at the Rocky Mountaineer train station. It was great, and I left with a few great recommendations, a bit tipsy, and the knowledge of the worst scotch on the planet.
Probably my favorite scotch at the event was Glenmorangie's Quinta Ruban. It has a faint citrus aroma to it and a great burnt almond finish. I'm going to be scooping a bottle up very soon.
The world's worst scotch is probably Talisker 10 yr. It has a god-awful burnt tire rubber flavor, with a tire rubber finish. As this was a three dollar sample, we avoided the remainder of the distillery's products. Screech is smoother than that trash.
Also got a hand on Trader Vic's Macadamia Nut liquer. I'm not usually keen on liquers, as they can be too sweet for my liking, but this was a pleasant surprise. A modest 33 dollar price tag makes it another soon-to-be addition to my growing cabinet.
There were also a few breweries there (often, large breweries disguising a relatively new product as a micro startup.) Among them was Stanley Park breweries, whose pitchmen seemed genuinely interested and enthusiastic about their product. The were there sampling the ale, which had a refreshingly clean taste to it.
As Hopscotch is completely sold out this year, I hope they expand the size of the venue next year to allow a more laid back atmosphere for even more people to enjoy.

Tho I wish I was some kind of super smart person who actually had a great job and everything I dream of.
