It is past time we as a people have both an internal conversation with ourselves, as well as a real meaningful national dialog about guns, and finally put an end to the carnage that been allowed to drench this nation in the blood of its own citizens for far too long!
People watch the mass murder unfold on their screens, small and large almost daily, be it in our inner-cities, schools, college, universities, military bases, health clinics, or rehabilitation centers, and we shake our collective heads, and politicians offer prayers, and people leave flowers & bears, and light candles, and utter meaningless prayers. But, nothing is done to curb the violence; oh sure the gun-control debate reignites for a day or two, but then it dies down and nothing is done, and people continue to be murdered at an alarming rate.
When little children barely out of their diapers are slaughtered wholesale and the nation cannot reach a consensus on even background checks, we have as a society lost the right to call ourselves civilized! We have as a nation lost the right to look upon ourselves as A moral authority, let alone the WORLDS’ moral authority.
Yesterdays (2) mass shootings in which (15) more Americans lost their lives needlessly and another 19 were wounded no doubt has the world looking upon us in pity and wonder, and frankly has this American longing to live elsewhere. This is where we live now, America where in some 33,000 people have died of gun-related violence over the last year; where more Americans have died due to gun violence since the nation’s founding then in all of the nation’s wars COMBINED, COMBINED!
Because the gun-violence in America is so prevalent and random-even our highways are not safe from gun play and sniper fire—we as a people are not safe ANYWHERE! It is not only the police who have to be concerned if they might not make it home every day; we should ALL make sure our papers are in order.
